How to Choose a Crown and Bridge Temporary
Eight of these rows are paste temporaries you seat over a prep: Patterson’s chemical-cure kit, Dentsply Integrity, 3M Protemp Plus, VOCO Structur 2 SC, DMG Luxatemp Automix Plus, 3M Paradigm, Centrix Access Crown, and VOCO Structur Premium. LuxaFlow Ultra is a 1.5 g light-cured resin for additions and repairs on bis-acryl, not the bulk temporary. DirectCrown is a preformed polymer shell filled with its own resin. An older table’s last two rows were Protemp 4 and Telio CAD. Those are not the ranked sections, so they are not in this table.
Inlay and onlay interim fillings (IRM, Tempit, and similar) are a different catalog: temporary materials for inlays and onlays. LuxaFlow is light-cured, so the curing light guide is the lamp, and flowable composites are the broader repair-resin shelf. The cement that holds a temporary on is the cement guide, which includes a noneugenol temporary cement. Milled provisional pucks are not these cartridges; mills are on the milling machine guide.
Buying criteria that separate these ten rows
- Paste, repair syringe, or shell — Patterson, Integrity, Protemp Plus, Structur 2 SC, Luxatemp, Paradigm, Access Crown, and Structur Premium are crown-and-bridge pastes. LuxaFlow is a 1.5 g syringe for repairs and additions. DirectCrown is a shell with a mesial-distal window, used with DirectCrown resin.
- The clock the product block prints — Patterson: flowable to elastic within 60 seconds, intraoral set under 60 seconds. Structur 2 SC: intraoral set under 1 minute. Protemp Plus: total set 5 minutes. Access Crown: elastic phase in 60 seconds, removable in 1 minute. Integrity prints a temperature rise under 5°C, not a minute count. Luxatemp prints shrinkage and heat, not minutes. Paradigm and Structur Premium print no set time. DirectCrown prints no chemical set time.
- How it cures — Patterson is chemical-cure. Structur 2 SC, Structur Premium, and Integrity are self-curing or automixed two-component materials. LuxaFlow is light-cured, cure-on-demand. Access Crown’s product block does not say light-cure. An older table cell gave Access Crown a 2–3 minute self-cure and a 20-second light-cure; those times are not in the product block, so they are not repeated as specs.
- Shade count and fluorescence, only where printed — Protemp Plus: five shades. Structur 2 SC: eight shades. Fluorescence is named for Patterson, Integrity, and Structur Premium. The other blocks do not print a shade count.
| Product | What the row is | Set or handling the listing prints | Delivery | Watch-out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Patterson introductory kit | Chemical-cure paste-paste temporary | Elastic within 60 seconds; intraoral set under 60 seconds | 4:1 / 10:1 automatic dispenser | Fluorescent. Crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays. |
| Integrity | Two-component automix temporary | Intraoral temperature change under 5°C. No minute count | Automix. Photo labeled 76 g cartridge; spec says kit contents may vary | Dentsply Caulk. Fluorescent. Bonds to itself. Also names veneers. |
| Protemp Plus | Bis-acrylic with nanofiller | Total set 5 minutes | Refill kit | 3M. Five shades. Fracture-resistance line is the listing’s claim. |
| Structur 2 SC | Self-curing bis-acrylic | Intraoral set under 1 minute | 1:1 cartridge | VOCO. Eight shades. |
| Luxatemp Automix Plus | Automix bis-acrylic | Negligible linear shrinkage; heat described as body-temperature level. No minute count | 10:1 automix. Listing says about 30% more material than the original cartridge | DMG. The 30% line is the listing’s pack claim. |
| Paradigm | Nanofiller temporization composite | No set time printed. Gloss without polishing or glazing | Refill pack | 3M. Single- and multi-unit. Fracture resistance is the listing’s claim. |
| LuxaFlow Ultra | Light-cured repair resin | Cure-on-demand. Not a bulk crown temporary | 1.5 g syringe with tips | DMG. For Luxatemp Ultra and other bis-acryl. Radiopaque. |
| Access Crown | Bis-acryl temporary | Elastic in 60 seconds; removable in 1 minute | Split cartridge | Centrix. Radiopaque. Old dual-cure times are not in the product block. |
| Structur Premium | Self-curing temporary | No numeric set time. Natural fluorescence | Cartridge with mixing tips | VOCO. This row is Structur Premium, not Protemp 4. |
| DirectCrown adult refill | Preformed shell plus resin | No chemical set time. Window forms contacts when filled | Shell refill. Spec says one pack; photo alt says 8/Pkg | Direct Crown. Not a bis-acryl cartridge and not Telio CAD. |
1. Patterson Temporary Crown and Bridge Material

The Patterson introductory kit is a fluorescent, chemical-cure paste-paste for temporary crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays. The listing describes a 4:1 / 10:1 automatic dispenser, a change from flowable to elastic within 60 seconds, and an intraoral set under 60 seconds. Package line: one introductory kit. Country of origin: not specified.
Who it is for: A chemical-cure Patterson paste when a sub-60-second intraoral set and a 4:1 or 10:1 dispenser are the handling you want.
Tradeoff: Shade count is not printed. “Fluorescent” is the listing’s optical line. This is a paste, not a preformed shell.
2. Integrity — Dentsply Caulk

Integrity is a two-component automix temporary from Dentsply Caulk, with fluorescence. The listing says the intraoral temperature change stays under 5°C, the material bonds to itself for repair, and it polishes to a luster. Uses named: crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers, short-term and long-term. The product photo is labeled a 76 g cartridge refill with mixing tips. The spec block says one kit, contents may vary.
Who it is for: An automix Dentsply temporary when a low temperature-rise line and self-repair by bonding to itself are the reasons you pick this cartridge.
Tradeoff: A minute-count set time is not printed, so the 5°C line is not converted into one. The 76 g figure is the photo label; the spec block does not confirm a single fill weight.
3. Protemp Plus — 3M

3M Protemp Plus is a bis-acrylic composite with nanofiller for temporary crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers. The listing prints a total set of 5 minutes, five shades, a smooth surface for plaque removal, and a fracture-resistance claim. Short-term and long-term use are both named. Fluorescence is not specified.
Who it is for: A 3M bis-acrylic refill when a 5-minute total set and five shades are the numbers you are ordering against.
Tradeoff: “Record-breaking” fracture resistance is the listing’s wording, not a table of newtons on this page. Cartridge grams are not printed in the spec block.
4. Structur 2 SC — VOCO

VOCO Structur 2 SC is a self-curing bis-acrylic in a 1:1 cartridge for temporary crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays. The listing prints an intraoral set under 1 minute, eight shades, and shape and shade stability. It is described as easy to trim and polish.
Who it is for: A 1:1 VOCO cartridge when the set you want is under a minute and you want eight shades named on the page.
Tradeoff: This is Structur 2 SC, the faster self-cure row. Structur Premium is a separate heading and does not print this one-minute time. No fluorescence line is on this block.
5. Luxatemp Automix Plus — DMG

Luxatemp Automix Plus is DMG’s automix bis-acrylic for provisional crowns and bridges during indirect treatment. The listing says the cartridge holds about 30% more material than the original Luxatemp cartridge, mixes at 10:1, and shows negligible linear shrinkage with heat at about body temperature. Mixing tips are part of the delivery description. A minute-count set time is not printed.
Who it is for: A 10:1 DMG automix when the larger cartridge and the shrinkage-and-heat lines are what you are comparing.
Tradeoff: The 30% figure is the listing’s comparison with DMG’s own prior cartridge, not with Protemp or Structur. Set time in minutes is not on this block, so none is borrowed from the neighbors.
6. Paradigm Temporization Material — 3M

3M Paradigm is a nanofiller temporization material for single- and multi-unit provisionals. The listing says fracture resistance is high and the surface comes out glossy enough that polishing or glazing is not required. A set time, a shade count, and a fluorescence line are not printed. Delivery is a refill pack.
Who it is for: A 3M temporization refill when the gloss-without-polish line is the handling difference you want versus Protemp Plus.
Tradeoff: Protemp Plus is the 3M row with a 5-minute set and five shades. Paradigm does not print those numbers. The old table put “brilliant gloss” in a setting-time column; gloss is a finish line, not a clock.
7. LuxaFlow Ultra — DMG

LuxaFlow Ultra is a light-cured resin in a 1.5 g syringe with tips. The listing says it is for additions, repairs, and refinements on Luxatemp Ultra and other bis-acryl provisionals: margins, contacts, and surface corrections. It is described as flowable and non-slumping, radiopaque, polishable, and cure-on-demand. It is not the cartridge that forms the temporary crown.
Who it is for: A 1.5 g light-cured add-on when the temporary is already a bis-acryl and you need a curing light to set a small repair.
Tradeoff: Buying LuxaFlow does not give you a crown temporary. The flowable composite guide is the wider class of flowable resins; this syringe is specified for bis-acryl provisionals.
8. Access Crown — Centrix

Centrix Access Crown is a bis-acryl temporary in a split cartridge. The product block says it reaches an elastic phase in 60 seconds and can be removed in 1 minute, with low shrinkage, low heat, high compressive strength, color stability, radiopacity, and repair with flowable composite. Uses named: temporary crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays. The photo is labeled a 76 g cartridge. An older comparison cell called the material dual-cure, with a 2–3 minute self-cure and a 20-second light-cure. Those cure times are not in the product block.
Who it is for: A Centrix bis-acryl when a 60-second elastic phase and removal at 1 minute are the handling lines you are using.
Tradeoff: This guide follows the product block on set time. It does not promote the old table’s light-cure seconds into a spec. Cartridge grams in the spec block are “volume varies”; 76 g is the photo label.
9. Structur Premium — VOCO

VOCO Structur Premium is a self-curing temporary in a cartridge with mixing tips. The listing describes porcelain-like esthetics, natural fluorescence, high fracture resistance, enamel-like hardness, and shape and shade stability, and says it trims and polishes. Uses named: crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays. A numeric set time and a shade count are not printed.
Who it is for: A VOCO self-cure cartridge when fluorescence and the fracture-resistance line matter more than the under-one-minute set printed only on Structur 2 SC.
Tradeoff: Structur 2 SC is the other VOCO row, with a 1:1 cartridge, eight shades, and a sub-minute set. Those details are not copied onto Premium. Protemp 4 is not this heading.
10. DirectCrown Adult Refill — Direct Crown

DirectCrown adult refills are preformed shells of a high-impact flexible polymer. The listing says a patented mesial and distal window produces contacts when the shell is filled with DirectCrown resin and molded over the prep. The result is described as a hard, wear-resistant temporary. Uses named: temporary crowns after preparation, including emergency coverage. The spec block says one refill pack and that shell sizes may vary. The photo alt says 8/Pkg.
Who it is for: A shell-and-resin temporary when you want a preformed crown rather than a bis-acryl cartridge in a matrix.
Tradeoff: This row needs DirectCrown resin; the shell alone is not the eight pastes above. Pack count is “one refill” in the spec and “8/Pkg” on the photo, so both stay visible. Telio CAD milling blocks are not this product.
