How can you leave a place like Amelia Island? That was what Dr. Suellen Rodeffer asked as a true native of Fernandina Beach who was born on the island and attended the public schools here. She was excited to pursue a degree in orthodontics when accepted into the residency program at Emory. There, she met her husband and eventual partner in practice, Dr. Tod Garner.

Returning to Amelia Island after residency was one of the couple’s primary goals, and they established the first of today’s five Coastline Orthodontics clinics in northeast Florida in 1983. At that time, the practice was known as Rodeffer and Garner Orthodontics. They quickly added an office on the northside of Jacksonville, and eventually started seeing patients in Macclenny as well. They opened another location on the south side of Jacksonville before bringing in a third orthodontist. In 2006, another homegrown native to the area, Dr. Valerie Minor joined the practice and the name soon changed to Rodeffer, Garner, and Minor Orthodontics. As the practice continued to grow, Dr. Brad Mokris (who is married to a Fernandina Beach local) joined the team in 2017 and the name changed again to Coastline Orthodontics.
