Does anyone have any experience with Opendental? We are an eaglesoft office and looking to possibly change. Would love some insight from someone with experience with both software programs.

Yes. Open Dental is very simplified. Very “flat”. Not a whole lot of fluff to it. Any specific questions?
Crystal P. I guess I don’t know what to ask but if you’ve worked with eaglesoft, do you have a preference?
Keesha M. yes Eaglesoft or Dentrix. Haha
I mean Open Dental isn’t bad. It is very very simple… literally no multiple screens. What you see is what you get. Whatever patient you click on that’s the account you are in on the other buttons. Ummm so if you’re in an account and someone calls there’s no “multi-tasking”.
To get into everything it’s a “double click”.
Hmmm what else? It’s just different to get use to. Some things are neat like some charting..
You can watch YouTube videos on open dental
Keesha M. I think it’s great, especially if you are a business owner. It will save you thousands each year.
Crystal P., my office has been using OD since 2012, and I don’t double click on anything?
The only other software I have experience with is PracticeWorks, so I can’t compare it to EagleSoft or Dentrix, but we love Open Dental.
Keesha, you should check out the Open Dental User groups on FB and ask them how it compares to other software.

Also, I just keep two or more sessions of OD open and work on as many patients as I want at a time.
Lucy S. so you open 2 sessions as opposed to being in one and able to have multiple things open at once?
Huh interesting.
Double click. I mean when I’m a persons chart. If I want to go into their insurance or family failed you click on the part you want and “double click” to open it and then it opens up to edit. I’m sure their are other ways. That’s just one I’ve noticed.
Crystal P. Yep, you right-click on the program in your start bar at the bottom, a little menu pops up, and you click “Open Dental” and you can open multiple sessions.
I haven’t noticed that causing any slowness, but in theory, it could, depending on your computer setup.
Lucy S. how was the transition and do you like the reports and charting?
We switched from Dentrix to Open Dental in August 2019. Much happier now. It’s simple to learn and the data transfer went smoothly.
We switched from Eaglesoft to Open Dental about 4 months ago and never turned back. You can customize OD so much it’s crazy! Accounts are easier to read, insurance payments are easier to enter, scheduling a recall for one or is good but for a family is even better. Gosh, too many good things to lis
Love Open Dental. You can customize more than Dentrix or Eagle Soft. Very user friendly too
