Good question

🙋♀️ Me. I have had 4 implants all together fail on the top. I finally quit trying and went with a denture.
I’m pretty sure mine would as well. I’ve had several root canal crown posts fail. 1 being the same tooth more than once sooo yeah I went denture route as well.
Ohhh good question
I have advanced perio, but I have been able to keep my teeth so far, and have crowns to help with cleaning (sooo much easier now my teeth are smooth).
I’d also like to know, if your crowns failed (with perio) whether the implants were placed immediately on extraction of the teeth?
My dentist said if I removed and went with implants, he would not place the implants for a number of months after extraction to ensure the perio is gone, because removal of the teeth is the only cure, and if you place implants right away, perio still has somewhere to live (not in those exact words)
Alana C. .. this is definitely the correct approach
Alana C. …….Hi, Do you have periodontitis ?
Yes I had two
Implants approx six years ago, just had them removed because of a pocket of infection that was eating the bone away.
Maintenance is the most important thing with implants and the dentist that did mine let me down totally and wasted 8000e
Following, have perio and just had 2 implants placed
Ask your dentist about Pharmaden supplements http://www.pharmaden.net
Allie S. do you use this?
Crystal H. I do for different reasons but my dentist recommends this to patient going through treatment. They have the only supplement with a double blind study on perio patients showing significant reduction in pocket depth, plaque, and bleeding. My mom takes their other product to help the bone. I take the general health one
Crystal H. prob depends on how bad of perio you have but your dentist should know
Allie S. thank you!

Don’t think a friend had perio but his implants fell out and he told me the dentist said his mouth had acidic? or some quality saliva that eroded the implants. His were early days, maybe 12 years ago.
I’m a periodontal hygienist. Perio patients need the perio to be treated and stabilized BEFORE placing implants. Implants then need maintenance. Success is possible but needs to be very directed. 👍🏼
Cindy C. what do they do for maintenance? I had one for ten years and I had to have a bone graft last week because the implant was coming through the bone.
Dee G. – it is x-rayed and cleaned – I use a glycine air polisher and a titanium scaler. I check depths around the implant- I check for drainage (exudate- a sign of infection). I check that it is tight in the bone and teach you how to clean it.
Cindy C. wow that’s amazing. I get checkups once a year for warranty but they only do the X-ray. They leave the crown on and don’t do any kind of cleaning
Dee G. – the crown does stay on while I do these things. 😉
Cindy C. wow!! Can you suggest best way to keep clean since my periodontist is clearly lacking
