For those who only had local anesthetic for their procedure… how did it go when getting implants? I’m not worried about the extractions, but getting 4 lower implants without being put under makes me nervous.

The implants are painless and the same as having a tooth removed once numb. I was worried and cancelled my general days before and I’m glad I did. You’ll be fine.
I got 3 upper with local and the worst of it was in my head.
You’ll be fine. I had 3 implants a week ago tomorrow. I’ve had a headache constantly since though and have had to take painkillers since.
The implants are less traumatic than the extractions in my experience. As for after care I slept propped up for a few nights to reduce swelling and bruising and took pain relief every four hours. I had a sinus lift and bone graft so had to be careful of the stitches and was advised not to eat on that side until the tooth goes on in August, the implant was done at the beginning of March.
I had two put in with just laughing gas and Novocain. It was not bad, the only problem I had was really bad dry mouth hearing the drills and what not.
I’ve been told that having implants put in is not as bad as having extraction.
Thanks everyone!
I can completely understand. I was too. The numbing medication they use has never worked for me. They gave me a medication to take before I went in. I was very reluctant. So my dentist suggest I take one twenty minutes before and when I came in take another. They removed 17 teeth and 4 implants ( on bottom). I don’t remember anything after I got to his office and when it was all over. I was very shocked how all this went.
Don’t remember a thing!
I didn’t find out until after mine that they have an option for some kind of IV med that makes you feel awesome. I only had local. Laughing gas probably would have helped too.
I only had lots of Novacaine. The part I didn’t like was the pressure! I definitely felt that!
The extractions to me felt worse (even though I “felt” nothing) the implants went actually quick and smoothly
Ashli J. why were they worse? More difficult recovery?
Megan Jo R. that, and just from what I can remember about it, it was a more traumatic experience. For whatever reason, I had implants placed one week before the rest of my extractions were done
Ashli J. did you get immediate load temporaries?
I was nervous too, bone graph and sinus lift plus full moth extractions and implants placed. I don’t remember much only a brief couple minutes and that’s the only recollection I have of even being there. It will be fine🙏🙏
Tammy Jo G. thank you!
I got 4 upper and lower felt nothing. No pain afterwards either. Having an excellent surgeon makes a world of difference. I was in lala land but still answered questions when asked
Shirley J. I sure hope mine is excellent!
Shirley J. besides local anesthesia how did they make you loopy?
I had my extractions (22) and implants under anesthesia. But when I had to have an implant replaced a few months later, it was local only. I’d take that any day over extractions!
Vicki N. really? I’ve had extractions before and it wasn’t that bad.
I had nothing when I had 2 implants it never hurt at all!
Once I tried nitrous oxide, I would never have anything done without it
I had all 12 implants placed with just local, it was fine
If you speak to your dentist they may give you a benzodiazepine to calm your nerves. From all I’ve heard the sound of it all is the worst.
Aly K. yes, they have something to relax people. I’m hoping it puts me to sleep. lol
Megan Jo R. If you haven’t taken Benzodiazepines in a long time or ever they’ll probably put you to sleep. I twitch and jerk really bad at certain sounds and I’ve always had to be medicated for dental procedures that didn’t involve anesthesia, at first I would zonk right out but after having multiple procedures in one year they didn’t effect me the same, but at the beginning they damn sure put me to sleep lol.
I had local and it didn’t hurt more than a filling.
Totally with ya..
I’m nervous about that too, he said I would just get Novocain and can prescribe an anxiety pill, which doesn’t work for me.
It’s a walk in the park!
I had no problem
I had 11 extractions. Sinus lift on both sides as well as bone grafts top and bottom. 4 implants top and 4 bottom with just local. For me worst part was the stitches. The implants didn’t hurt one bit.
Every tooth pulled in mouth different times always local. Implants went under much better for me.
Got one implant 3 days ago, pretty chill throughout the whole thing.
The very word ‘implants’ makes it sound like you’re getting an appendage sewn on. Sounds so much worse than it actually is. The Novocaine shots are the worse part of it all! I’m the world’s biggest coward, and I wouldn’t tell anyone something that’s not so. Fear is an awful thing!!!
Judi W. the shots were definitely the worst part! lol 😣🙈😜
