Can Sedation Make You Asleep?

When you get IV sedation are you completely asleep and have no idea what’s going on or are you aware of some stuff?

  1. I used to have sedation for 32 years up until this treatment. This was with my own dentist for any work, fillings, teeth removal, even just a clean as I hated the dentist. Sometimes I would wake up but no pain felt, just knew they were working on my teeth. Sometimes I could feel it but I wasn’t really there, but the time I got home and went to sleep and woke up again, I didn’t remember a thing. Because of all the different experiences of sedation I chose to be awake for all my work with implants, grafts and sinus lift. , bizarre really but its always a personal choice. Mine is about my severe medical anxiety, fear and trust. Everyone is different and you shouldn’t feel a thing. You might remember little things but not until after you sleep it off, you shouldn’t feel any pain at all.

  2. I had iv sedation last week. I knew what was going on, I could communicate with the dentist he kept asking me stuff I was numbed so I didn’t feel a thing.
Time seemed to go so fast. When I got home after 10.h hours at the dentist I was just thirsty and tired.
Honestly id do it again like that, so much better

  3. If you have sedation you can usually respond to commands but don’t usually remember anything!

  4. Yes I was told a few times to breath in and out, I felt nothing and could hear nothing.

  5. There’s twilight sedation, general, and another kind I don’t know the name of. With twilight you’re semi conscious I think and don’t usually remember much. I had the other one and it was pretty useless – I was conscious throughout and remembered everything

  6. I don’t remember anything. I wake up thinking it has not started yet every time. Done it over 5 times.

  7. I remember the IV and then a few seconds later I felt woozy, I heard voices in the background but have no memory.

  8. Out cold. But they might use an amnesiac so you could be up dancing around the office and you’d never know.
I had another operation under full sedation and the doc told me I fought them pretty well. I didn’t remember a thing.
Then I watched an operation — a pump insertion — where they had they had they guy on the edge of sleep. He talked nonsense and they talked nonsense back to him.

  9. I had twilight IV sedation. I was kind of aware but remember very little of it. A few commands, a little pulling and hearing them talk a little.

  10. I got up early, went in, said hello, took a 4 hr nap and woke up as they were putting things away.
Then they fitted the temporary dentures and let me go home to sleep it off.

  11. I was asleep for one THR and woke up during surgery for the other. I was so doped up I didn’t care what they were doing. No pain until the epidural wore off.

  12. Would you recommend sedation!! Rather than injection!!! For implants. As you spend so much time in the chair.

  13. I asked the guy this same question before they hooked me up to the iv and he said some people remember a little and some people don’t remember at all. I remember like a release of pressure and I remember them telling me it was almost over during the impacted one but I didnt know what was going on and it felt like 5 minutes when really it was 45 minutes.

  14. I had what’s called “twilight sedation” and the last thing I remember was the iv being put in and told that I’d start to feel sleepy. After that, I woke up when it was over and felt like it had been a couple mins. I don’t remember anything and wasn’t aware of what was happening even though I was still somewhat awake. I was out for several hours but it didn’t seem that way to me. I’d definitely use iv sedation again if I needed any type of procedure and it was offered.

  15. They used Propofol and I woke up a couple of times and I am unusual in that I remember what they were saying….

    1. Juan M R. we paid 250.00 for the first 15 minutes of sedation. 175.00 every 15 minutes after that. My daughter was sedated 7 hours the first time and we aren’t done yet. So yes very expensive

  16. I remember everything having the top done, fully aware of what was happening. Experienced pain when they started the bottom and I think they increased the sedation, don’t remember anything having the bottom done. I guess it depends on the person and the amount of sedation you are given.

    1. I was completely out. The anesthesiologist talked to me until I stopped responding lol. He was super nice.

  17. I didn’t remember anything, but they told me I woke up during and was trying to fight the anesthesiologist off. I also peed. 😬

  18. I started fighting during mine. I felt like I couldn’t breathe & was trying very hard to TELL them I couldn’t. At my follow up the doctor said they always start to bring patients out of it as they’re stitching up so they won’t sleep another 15 or so minutes when done. But he said on my next procedure they will crank it down so I don’t experience this. Also said the sensation that I can’t breathe is totally normal since they have my mouth jacked open (I have a very small opening, which makes it difficult) & they have gauze & stuff at the back of my mouth.

Our Story

Dental Country was born out of a simple yet profound idea: to bridge the gap between dental professionals and the public by providing an all-encompassing platform for dental knowledge. Founded in 2013 by Dr. Sean Myran, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Dental Country started as a response to the growing need for a reliable and comprehensive online resource where both dental professionals and everyday people could find trustworthy, accurate, and well-researched information about dentistry and oral health.

Dr. Myran had witnessed first-hand the complexities faced by dental professionals, from managing successful practices to staying up-to-date with the latest dental technology and products. At the same time, he noticed how challenging it was for patients to find accurate, digestible information about dental procedures, oral hygiene products, and how to choose the right dentist. This dual perspective inspired him to create Dental Country, an online space that could cater to both audiences.

What started as a small blog quickly grew into a multifaceted platform with a wide range of dental resources—from practice management tips to in-depth product reviews and educational articles on oral health. Over the years, Dental Country has expanded its offerings to meet the evolving needs of dental professionals and patients alike. Today, it is one of the most trusted names in dental content, recognized for its dedication to quality, transparency, and accessibility.

Located in Lake Forest, CA, Dental Country has reached thousands of readers across the country and continues to grow. Through collaboration with dental experts, product reviewers, and a passionate team of healthcare copywriters, Dental Country has remained committed to its mission of providing well-rounded, authoritative dental content that helps everyone—from seasoned dental practitioners to families looking to improve their oral health.

Our Approach to Dental Content

At Dental Country, we pride ourselves on a rigorous and thoughtful approach to creating dental content. Whether we are producing an article for patients seeking information on a dental procedure or conducting an in-depth review of dental products for industry professionals, our approach remains consistent: provide reliable, actionable insights backed by research and professional experience.

Every piece of content begins with extensive research. Our team of copywriters and dental experts gather information from peer-reviewed studies, respected dental publications, and input from dental professionals. We also consult product specifications and customer feedback when reviewing dental tools, equipment, and services to provide a well-rounded view. Accuracy is our top priority, and each article is carefully fact-checked and edited to ensure it provides readers with clear, actionable, and reliable information.

We understand that dental professionals have different needs than the general public, which is why we produce tailored content for both audiences. For dentists and practice owners, we provide practice management tips, dental marketing strategies, and product reviews that are critical to their day-to-day operations. We go beyond the basics by offering detailed analyses of emerging trends and innovations in the dental industry, helping professionals stay ahead of the curve. For the public, we focus on making complex dental topics easy to understand. Our goal is to demystify dental care, empowering patients to take control of their oral health and make well-informed decisions.

We believe in staying at the forefront of these changes, ensuring that our content not only keeps up but also leads the way in educating our readers.

In the near future, we plan to introduce even more innovative tools and resources for both dental professionals and patients. One of our most exciting upcoming projects is the launch of interactive features designed to improve the user experience. This includes personalized content suggestions based on individual preferences, allowing dental professionals to access the most relevant practice management tips and product reviews for their specific needs. Patients will also benefit from personalized recommendations on oral hygiene products, helping them find the best solutions for their unique dental health requirements.

In addition to content personalization, we are working to develop a community platform where dental professionals can connect, share insights, and collaborate on best practices. This network will allow for peer-to-peer learning and foster a community of shared knowledge and support, helping professionals stay updated on the latest industry trends and innovations. We envision this space as a hub for dental experts to exchange ideas and help each other succeed in a competitive and rapidly evolving field.

For patients, we are expanding our content library to include more multimedia resources like videos, infographics, and interactive guides. These resources will cover everything from understanding dental procedures to improving daily oral hygiene habits. By offering a more visual and interactive learning experience, we aim to make dental care more approachable and less intimidating for the general public.

Our long-term vision is to become the most comprehensive online platform for dental education. We aim to be the first place both dental professionals and patients turn to for trusted, up-to-date information. To support this, we are exploring partnerships with leading dental schools, healthcare organizations, and technology companies that will allow us to provide cutting-edge educational tools, research, and data-driven insights.

As we look to the future, we remain grounded in our core values: a commitment to quality, a focus on empowering our readers, and a passion for transforming the way dental information is delivered. The future of Dental Country is bright, and we look forward to continuing to serve the dental community and the public for many years to come.
