Many patients are curious – will my clear aligners have attachments? Also called bonds or buttons, these small tooth-colored bumps are frequently used with aligners to aid in shifting teeth:
- They help the aligner grip teeth better during initial movement stages.
- Rotate severely crooked teeth into position more efficiently.
- Anchor teeth and prevent them from slipping with aligners in.
- Allow aligners to apply targeted pressure against specific teeth.
Are Clear Aligners More Discreet Than Traditional Braces?
Aligners without any attachments can still straighten teeth in many uncomplicated cases. But attachments provide an additional tool for achieving results with more complex movements.
Expect around 4-8 attachments bonded to select teeth that require the most correction. You’ll get used to the feel after a few days. And they’re removed once teeth are straightened! So while attachments add some aesthetic bulk temporarily, they optimize aligner function.
