The inside layer of each tooth that is consisted of soft tissue is called 'pulp'. This area considered to be an inside part of the body and is not supposed to be exposed to the outside.

When due to cavities and or other reasons, this tissue is contaminated or to a point of no return is inflamed, root canal treatment is indicated.

During this operation, the infected/involved tissue is removed from the inside of a tooth and after through cleaning process, it is sealed with special rubbery material called Gutta Percha.
