Dental sealants are thin
composite resins that
are placed inside
grooves of posterior
(back) teeth to prevent
decays.
Sealants
have been successfully
used in dentistry for
many years and today
they are considered a
routine preventive
treatment for kids and
young adults.
The
process of placing
sealants on teeth
(usually molars)
involves the following
steps:
1.
Brushing and cleaning of
the teeth 2.
Etching and priming of
the groove area 3.
Placement of the sealing
material 4.
Usually light curing the
composite resin
No anesthesia is
required. Often one time
placement of sealant on
molars right after their
eruption is recommended. |
