Question:
Root canal treatment,
how do you remove a root
if necessary?
Answer: During
root canal treatments it
is not the root that is
removed, rather it is
the tissue inside the
root.
Usually
this tissue that is also
called pulp, is inflamed
and or infected to a
irreversible point. The
treatment therefore
includes opening the
tooth to access this
tissue and removing all
of it and also cleaning
the empty space created
inside the tooth and its
root.
At the
end, that space is
filled with special
material to prevent
re-infection.
There are circumstances
that tip of a root is
removed by accessing it
trough gum and jaw bone
to remove lingering
infection. |
